PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM AUTOIMMUNE & NEUROLOGICAL DISEASES ARE NO LONGER INVISIBLE
Neurological Diseases
Neurological disease is any disorder of the body’s nervous system that results in a wide range of symptoms. Neurological disorders are manifested by functional impairment, weakness, speech disorders, lack of coordination etc.
Autoimmune diseases
The immune system is a defense mechanism that protect the human body from invasion by disease causing pathogens. There are two methods that are employed in the event of pathogens entering the body. The first type of immunity is the innate immune system that is present when a child is born, which automatically responds to pathogens but in a generic non-specific way. The second type of immunity is the adaptive immune system, which is a secondary defense that responds to pathogens that overcome the innate immune system. The normal immune system distinguishes between pathogens and host cells and only attacks pathogens.
When the immune system fails to distinguish between host cells and pathogens it produces antibodies that attack the host cells. This attack of the immune system against itself is called an autoimmune response. The autoimmune response results in inflammation in the body and damage to various organs, such liver cirrhosis.
Treatment for Autoimmune diseases
As autoimmune disease is a chronic disease that has no cure, treatment focuses on relieving the patient’s symptoms and attempt to reduce or suppress the immune system and allow for patients’ improved quality of life.
Giving Hope
Damage to the nervous system results in a multitude of symptoms, some unobservable such as fatigue, loss of sensation, fever, burning, tingling and stabbing pain. Though patients who suffer from these disorders may appear healthy, they experience debilitating pain that restricts normal functioning.
Often, in situations where communication between patients and family or friends is lacking, patients’ discomfort increase. This occurs when patients expect those around them recognize their suffering despite the patients’ healthy appearance. This unrealistic and often unmet expectation engenders mental and emotional distress in addition to the physical agony.
We must make an effort to improve communication so that these diseases and their symptoms are better understood and the needs of patients are properly met. We must assist in any way possible so that those inflicted with autoimmune debilitating diseases do not lose hope.
Our Mission
The Ish Tzaddik Haya nonprofit organization, which is committed to identify the needs and provide assistance wherever necessary, has established an initiative named: “TIKVAH” (hope), to assist individuals suffering from autoimmune disorders.
