Women's Obligation Regarding Intent in the First Verse of Shema - Ish Tsadik
Question:
It is brought down in halachah that one must direct one's focus and intent (l'chaven) during the first verse of Shema, which sometimes appears impractical. Is a woman also obligated in this?
Answer

This matter is certainly realistic, as it is a formal halachic obligation, and halachah only binds us to what is within our capabilities. If one trains oneself to practice this, it becomes straightforward, with the primary focus being the intent of the heart.

A woman should also focus on the meanings and intentions brought down by the halachic authorities. However, since the Recitation of Shema is a time-bound positive commandment (mitzvat aseh she’hazman grama) from which women are exempt, if she did not focus with proper intent, she is not required to repeat it—unlike a man, who would be obligated to repeat it.
