B"H 8th of Nissan, 5786 As the festival of Passover drew near, and against the backdrop of the ongoing war, we received a deeply moving appeal: to bring a glimmer of light and joy to the residents of...
In recent years, the number of elderly citizens in the State of Israel has been steadily increasing. As they age, their needs change; health is no longer what it once was, and a decline in daily functioning begins. This brings difficulties with mobility both inside and outside the home, resulting in withdrawal into the house and social and community isolation. Our parents, our grandfathers, and our grandmothers—who not so long ago raised us, invested in us, and changed our diapers—now find themselves needing us on a daily basis in those very same areas. The wheel has turned. The elderly person's need for help from their family and immediate environment is not always fully met. This situation has led many seniors to seek suitable frameworks in nursing homes. Wanting to avoid becoming a burden on their families, many seniors choose to relocate to nursing homes to spend the rest of their lives there. It is an open secret that the quality of a nursing home and the senior's quality of life is a direct derivative of money—and a lot of it! Those who do not have the means find themselves in simple, meager nursing homes that provide only the most basic existential needs. We, at the Ish Tzadik Haya organization, have taken it upon ourselves to give back to those fathers, grandfathers, and grandmothers. We give everything we can to make their time more pleasant, to bring a smile to their faces during these difficult days, and to show them just how important they are to us.
