⚕️ Post-Cancer Rehabilitation Needs in Israel
Thousands of children and adolescents in Israel have recovered from various cancers but suffer from long-term side effects (primarily affecting the oral cavity, skin, and fertility) due to past treatments (chemotherapy and/or radiation between the chest and head). These effects prevent a normal life and require specialized care not covered by standard disease treatment.
The 'Ish Tzadik Haya' association focuses on assisting patients needing oral cavity rehabilitation.
🦷 Affected Patients and Damages
These patients are children who received:
-
Chemotherapy treatments (e.g., the 4 types used for leukemia).
-
Radiation in the areas between the chest and head.
Around 7,000 children in Israel have suffered oral damage from significant doses of these treatments. The primary damage involves:
-
Damage to the outer layer of the tooth and enamel.
-
Weakening of the roots, leading to tooth loss.
-
Gum injuries.
💸 Treatment Cost and Financial Burden
This extensive oral, jaw, and teeth rehabilitation is costly, ranging from 50,000 NIS to 200,000 NIS, depending on the case.
Since HMOs only partially cover these costs, the heavy financial and emotional burden falls entirely on the families, who are already exhausted from their prior ordeal.
We are here to help them!
