Chanukah at Beit Yahalom – Ezer L’Yeled HaMeyuchad (Aid for the Special Child)

B”H

On the third night of Chanukah, our beloved volunteers set out to Beit Yahalom – Ezer L’Yeled HaMeyuchad, located in the city of Bnei Brak, to bring the joy of the Chanukah festival to its residents.

Beit Yahalom is a home to 83 residents with special needs, all of whom live with severe intellectual and developmental disabilities. Every one of them is wheelchair-bound, every one requires full nursing care, and none of them are able to speak.

The activity was preceded by careful and thorough preparation together with the institution’s leadership, in order to determine what to do, how to do it, and with whom — so that every aspect of the visit would be carried out in the very best way and achieve its intended purpose. Before the activity began and before the volunteers met with the residents, they received a detailed briefing from the institution’s director.

Joining the volunteers for the occasion was a group of police officers from the Mesubim Police Station.

The activity included lighting Chanukah candles with the residents, live music, singing and dancing, distributing small gifts to each resident, and creating a truly festive and joyful atmosphere — all while giving warm, personal attention to each resident.

The atmosphere was uplifting, deeply moving, and filled with genuine happiness. Not a single eye remained dry. The experience left a profound impression on residents and volunteers alike.

Attached below is the response of the commanding officer of the police group who participated in the event:

“On behalf of the GIPAM unit of the Mesubim Police Station — its officers and command staff — I wish to express our heartfelt gratitude for the privilege you gave us of being part of today’s deeply moving event. We left feeling enriched and profoundly affected, overwhelmed with gratitude for everything we had always taken for granted. Every person needs to experience an evening like this from time to time. To go home, to hold our loved ones close — tightly, so tightly — and to pray that they will always remain healthy and whole.”
