Volunteering at Mayanei HaYeshua Medical Center – Bnei Brak

.On September 12, 2017, our volunteers worked with sick children at the Mayanei Hayeshua hospital in Bnei Brak

It is exciting to see a child who stayed in his room for two days, refusing to come out, respond to our volunteers. When our volunteers arrived, they cheer him up with all small gifts and games, and got through to him. He began to soften, smile and rejoice with them and then got out of bed and left his room with a mile to join the activities with the other kids.  The child’s mother was beyond herself, not finding words sufficient of thanks and praise for the volunteers who brought about this wonderful change in her son.

.The Ish Tzadik Haya Volunteers also worked with all the other kids in the Mayanei HaYeshua children’s ward, and engaged them with arts and crafts

.An pained and suffering seven-year-old girl expressed her heartfelt gratitude in writing, as you can see in the picture posted below

.We pray for the success of the treatments and for the children’s safe and sound return to their families

Volunteering at Tel HaShomer Medical Center

3.5.17

When the rest of the nation celebrated Yom Hatzmaut – Israel’s independence day all over the country, 19 Ish Tzadik Haya Volunteers made their way to two hospitals: Schneider Children’s Medical Center in Petah Tikvah and Safra Hospital in Tel Hashomer. Their mission was to spend time with hospitalized sick children and delight them in fun and engaging fashions.

The volunteers spent time in the following wards:
Schneider Children’s Hospital: Surgery, Hematology, Inpatient III, Inpatient IV, Dialysis, Cardiac Unit, Children’s Ward A and Children Ward B.

Safra Hospital: Rehabilitation Department, Department A: Wards A&B, and Department B: Wards A&B

We select specific days for our volunteer activities, so we can support the sick children and ease suffering, as well as lighten the load a bit for their families, in these difficult times. This was the case during Passover and on Israel’s Independence Day.

For days prior to this initiative, Ish Tzadik Haya volunteers were involved in selecting and acquiring materials, games, creative material, that would enable them to employ, engage, and delight the children.

We would like to share with you two of many experiences that the volunteers reported:

  1. “We were in a rehabilitation department, by a child who could not do the craft himself. He was transfixed on a chair and looked up from time to time without speaking. Nathaniel, one of our volunteers, took note of it, approached him, and played the guitar for a long time in an effort to lift the child’s spirits. We then gave the child arts and crafts items, a balloon, and a flag, so that he would feel like everyone else. At the end of the visit, the boy looked up, and without a word waved the hand that held the balloon and the flag, and expressed gratitude in his eyes.”
  2. “When I reached room 8, I heard a young girl of about seven, crying and murmuring her refusal to go to the nurses’ room for a blood transfusion. The girl then screamed and the mother was visibly tired, exhausted from the constant struggle. I went into the room, sat by the girl, and calmed her with the gifts we had brought. I was able to persuade her to go to the nurses’ room by agreeing to accompany her along with her mother. So she and her mother and I went to the nurses’ room to do the IV.”

We wish thank wholeheartedly our volunteers who gave up their time and energy and came to volunteer on this day.

We wish to thank our volunteers from the bottom of our heart. We pray that in the merit of their actions, G-d will fulfill all their wishes for the good and satisfy all their needs, in peace and tranquility.

Praiseworthy is the people that has this; Praiseworthy is the nation that there are their sons and their daughters.

Volunteering at Schneider Children’s Medical Center– Petah Tikvah

14.4.17

When the rest of the nation is hiking, Enjoy, and celebrating with their families, nine

volunteers from the Ish Tzadik Foundation went on Chol Ha-Mo’ed to Schneider Children’s Hospital in order to cheer, delight, engage, and play with sick children, who could not leave the hospital to celebrate the holiday with their families.

The volunteers spread out in many hospital wards: oncology, dialysis, surgery, pre-surgery, at the children’s club and more.

In anticipation for the visit, volunteers spent hours in preparation of materials, games, and gadgets that helped them engage and delight the children. It was exciting to see the parents and children happy and thankful for all the blessed activity and the festive atmosphere that distracted them from their anguish and misery.

We wish to thank our volunteers from the bottom of our heart. We pray that in the merit of their actions, G-d will fulfill all their wishes for the good and satisfy all their needs, in peace and tranquility.

Another story to share: On Friday afternoon we received a call on behalf of a sick, blind, lonely, and childless woman, whose husband died a year and a half ago. She was hospitalized in Beilinson Hospital and asking if anyone would visit her, keep her company, and offer some support and encouragement.

Within an hour, a volunteer of the organization, arrived at Beilinson Medical Center with cookies, chocolates and fruit, and sat with the woman and engaged her in pleasantries for a significant amount of time.

Praiseworthy is the people that has this; Praiseworthy is the nation that there are their sons and their daughters.

Volunteering at Barzilai Medical Center – Ashkelon

On 2.6.2017, our volunteers set out to work among sick children at Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon.

The volunteers spread out in the various wards in order to encourage and delight the patients. Following the wonderful feedback about the volunteers, the representative of the hospital asked to expand our volunteer program to include the adult patients as well. Our volunteers heeded the request and also spread the cheer and good will in the adult wards.

On behalf of the hospital administration and on behalf of the Ish Tzadik Haya Foundation, we would like to thank all the volunteers who participated in this wonderful program. Bless you shall be by the Almighty and may He fill all your needs with all that is good.

Volunteering at Schneider Children’s Medical Center– Petah Tikvah (2)

On August 10, 2017, our volunteers worked with sick children at Schneider Children’s Hospital in Petah Tikva. This volunteering effort was  performed by youth as part of a community service initiative.

What is most amazing about this activity is that this group of young volunteers chose to volunteer their time at the height of the summer vacation, while their busy themselves with parties and sightseeing trips.

The youth initiative focused primarily on engaging sick kids with fun activities on their way to and from painful treatments. By doing so, the volunteers also helped the kids’ parents who were able to relax a bit from the constant caring for their sick children

Ish Tzadik Haya received positive feedback and a warm thank you from the parents.

We are fortunate to merit such wonderful youth.

Volunteering at Barzilai Medical Center – Ashkelon (2)

9.10.17

On the 4th day of Chol Hamoed Sukkot, our precious volunteers set out again to spend time with sick children at Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon.

The following experience was reported by the group’s leader, Ms. Malka Hayoun.

“In the psychiatric ward, the head nurse accompanied us from room to room and from patient to patient. The nurse thanked us very much for the smiles we bring out in patients and for the gifts that we distributed. However, what touched me most was the fact that the patients blessed our volunteers. Blessings from the heart.”

“We came to bless and were found ourselves blessed!”

Volunteering at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center – Hadera

8.10.17

On Sunday, during the first day of Chol HaMoed Sukkot, our volunteers set out to interact with patients at Hillel Yaffe Hospital in Hadera.

Near the emergency room, a two-year-old girl who had received blood infusion was sitting on her mother’s lap, crying. The mother’s attempts to calm the crying child, were to no avail.

The Ish Tzadid Haya volunteers arrived with a host of gifts and prizes and distracted the girl, blowing bubbles into the air. The little girl was fascinated as she watched the floating bubbles, her crying came to a stop and her tears dried. The grateful mother invited the volunteers to “Come every time ..”

The volunteers then went through the other wards and delighted the sick children and their adult caretakers with balloons and small gifts for the holiday.

Our volunteers left the hospital with a sense of satisfaction, with the knowledge that they succeeded, at least somewhat in relieving the pain and suffering by infusing the atmosphere with some holiday cheer.

We are fortunate to be counted among those who affect joy.
