Amit Bendak, a 15-year-old aviation enthusiast who always dreamed of becoming a pilot, joined a short flight in a light aircraft and was critically injured when the plane crashed off the coast of Bat Yam.
The plane sank, and Amit was trapped underwater among the wreckage without oxygen. Thanks to heroic rescue efforts, he was located and pulled from the water. Immediately upon his rescue, he was rushed to the hospital while undergoing continuous CPR. A large team of doctors and medical staff fought tirelessly to bring him back to life.
Since then, Amit’s family has embarked on a long, challenging, and arduous journey of rehabilitation.
Upon a thorough assessment of the resources required for Amit’s recovery, it became clear to his parents that most of the complementary treatments he needs are not covered by any health insurance or national basket and must be funded independently. This is in addition to the specialized medical equipment that must be purchased and the fact that his parents have not left his bedside, providing 24/7 care.
It quickly became apparent to the family that they could not bear these immense costs on their own. Consequently, with the help of close friends, they turned to us for assistance in fundraising for Amit’s rehabilitation.
In collaboration with JGive, we launched a crowdfunding campaign for Amit. Together, we successfully raised over 400,000 NIS.
In a moving meeting to present the collected donations, we were joined by Ronen, Amit’s father, along with friends Dana Shitivy and Amir Hetzroni, who were instrumental in assisting Ronen with the fundraising efforts. During the meeting, Ronen shared details of Amit’s rehabilitation process and his current progress.
We wish to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who mobilized and contributed to this campaign. We wish Amit and his family great success in his recovery and hope to see Amit return to full health and function, just as he was before the injury.
