Revital Shamir endured an unimaginable loss when her beloved husband, Major Moti Shamir, Hy”d, fell in the heroic defense of Kibbutz Re’im during the Simchat Torah attacks of 5784.
On that fateful Sabbath morning, without waiting for a formal command or hesitating for a single moment, Moti heard of the infiltration in the south. He took his weapon, bid a tender farewell to Revital—then six months pregnant—and their four-year-old son, Lavi, and rushed toward the danger to save lives. Moti commanded the front lines, rescuing hostages and evacuating the wounded under heavy fire, until he fell heroically in battle.
Months after his passing, their daughter, Ori, was born into a world where she will know her father only through stories and photographs.
Moti, Hy”d, dreamed of building a home that would provide his family with a life of serenity and fulfillment. He spent years meticulously planning every detail, driven by a vision to build the house with his own hands—personally hiring and managing the craftsmen and overseeing every corner of the project. He had planned to break ground immediately after the holiday.
In the wake of Moti’s fall, the construction was frozen, leaving the family not only with a shattered heart but with an uncertain future. Amidst this profound crisis, Revital turned to us for assistance in securing her children’s financial stability and fulfilling Moti’s final dream of completing their family home.
In partnership with the Charidy platform, we launched a global crowdfunding campaign. To our profound emotion, the people of Israel and friends worldwide rallied to their side, raising over 1,933,000 NIS. This achievement stands as a powerful testament to love, solidarity, and the unbreakable unity of our people.
We recently held a deeply moving meeting with Revital to deliver the first installment of these funds. The gathering included Revital’s sister Orit, her brothers Oren and Elroi Laslau—who stand by her side with unwavering devotion—as well as Rabbi Chaim Idels and Mr. David Shirel.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who ensured the success of this mission: to the Charidy platform, and especially to the 5,214 donors whose generosity made this possible. Moti, Hy”d, fell as a hero, but his legacy will continue to live and breathe within the walls of the home he envisioned.
As the final contributions from our international donors arrived and the echoes of the sirens faded, we met with Revital once more to present the second installment of 358,008 NIS. During this meeting, Revital shared the progress of the construction, a project that is breathing new hope into her life and the lives of her children.
