Presenting Donations to the Parents of Lavi, a Child with Cerebral Palsy Requiring Unique Medical Treatment Abroad

Lavi Elchanan Alterman is a charming and sweet 6.5-year-old boy diagnosed with Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy due to oxygen deprivation at birth.

Lavi came into the world after 10 years of anticipation and prayers, a little brother to Libi and Ori. He was born in a dramatic emergency delivery, showing no signs of life. After 10 long minutes of resuscitation, he performed his first miracle and chose life against all odds. He was diagnosed with complex Cerebral Palsy affecting all four limbs, cortical blindness, and epilepsy.

Despite these challenges and his difficult starting point, Lavi proves every day what true determination is, fighting heroically against every obstacle in his path. Lavi’s presence brings great light to his family, teaching his parents to cherish every moment and every achievement. Thanks to him, they have gained a new perspective on life, understanding that even the simplest action is an entire world and that nothing should be taken for granted.

Since his birth, his parents have done everything possible to provide him with the best quality of life and to promote his functional progress and independence. After extensive research in Israel and abroad, the parents discovered an experimental treatment under a unique medical study taking place in Monterrey, Mexico. This treatment offers phenomenal rehabilitation potential for children with Cerebral Palsy.

Following in-depth inquiries with the clinic and contact with families from Israel and around the world who have returned from the treatment reporting significant functional improvement, it was determined that Lavi is a suitable candidate.

As this treatment is not covered by the national health basket and its cost is high, the family turned to us for assistance in raising the necessary funds. In collaboration with JGive, we launched a crowdfunding campaign for Lavi. We successfully raised over 400,000 NIS.

Due to the security situation, particularly in the northern border area where the family resides, and the need to prepare for the trip as soon as possible, a meeting to present the donations was held in a small forum with the participation of Dan, Lavi Elchanan’s father.

During the meeting, Dan shared details about Lavi’s physiological and cognitive condition, his developmental process, and the functional improvements reported by other families of children with CP who underwent this treatment.

On behalf of Yahel and Dan—Lavi’s parents—we wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to all 1,357 donors who mobilized and contributed to this campaign. We wish Lavi and his family great success with the treatment and hope it brings the progress they envision.
