B”H Mark Breiter is a devoted husband to Lital, a father of three young children, and has two older children. For years, Mark has been battling severe COPD with immense courage. Today, his lung function has dwindled to a critical 17%, leaving him in urgent, life-saving need of a lung transplant.
After a prolonged and grueling wait on the transplant list in Israel, a critical opportunity has emerged at a specialized hospital in the United States. However, this journey is immensely complex. One of the hospital’s strict prerequisites for the transplant is having a primary family caregiver present throughout the entire process. Because Mark and Lital have three young children who cannot be left behind in Israel, the only option is for the entire family to relocate to the US for a full year.
While the medical procedure itself has been approved by the health fund (Kupat Cholim), the ancillary costs are astronomical—exceeding one million dollars—and are not fully covered. Despite the staggering financial burden, this transplant represents Mark’s sole chance to breathe independently and live.
Faced with a deficit of 550,000 NIS that they could not possibly raise on their own, Lital reached out to us for assistance to make this journey possible. In partnership with the ‘Giveback’ platform, we launched a crowdfunding campaign. Thanks to incredible public support, we successfully raised over 350,000 NIS for the family.
We recently held a deeply moving meeting to deliver the funds. Mark insisted on attending in person, accompanied by his oxygen respirator. With what little strength he had, he shared the severe hardships and limitations he faces daily, yet his spirit remained unbroken, filled with absolute faith that he will return home healthy and whole.
As they prepare for their flight, Mark and Lital wish to express their profound, heartfelt gratitude to each and every donor who took part in this campaign. They offer their warmest blessings that you may always merit to be on the giving end.
