The harrowing story of Aviva and Keith Siegel is one that touched the hearts of us all. Abducted from their home in Kfar Aza on October 7, 2023, they endured a long and agonizing period of captivity in Gaza. Aviva was released after 51 days during the initial hostage exchange, but Keith remained in the hands of Hamas for 484 days, finally returning home in the fourth phase of the releases.
Seeking to support their journey toward recovery and help them renovate the home they received in Kibbutz Gazit—located near their children—their family and friends turned to us for assistance. In partnership with JGive, we launched a dedicated crowdfunding campaign that resonated deeply with the public, raising over 360,000 NIS.
We recently gathered for an incredibly powerful and moving meeting to present Aviva and Keith with the funds raised in their honor. During this encounter, the couple shared fragments of the unimaginable suffering, torment, and abuse they endured while in captivity.
Keith spoke of the fellow hostages he encountered during his long months in the tunnels, including Omri Miran and Matan Angrest. He described Matan’s hand injury and shared how they found the strength to support one another through the darkness. Keith also recounted the constant moves between various hiding places throughout Gaza. He noted that what sustained him most was the profound knowledge that here at home, the People of Israel had not forgotten them, and were doing everything possible to secure their return.
A touching moment occurred when Mr. David Shirel, a member of the organization’s board, arrived at the meeting. He shared with great emotion that he had been delayed by demonstrations and roadblocks held by activists calling for the release of the hostages. When he found himself stuck, David stepped out of his car and spoke with the protesters, telling them he was on his way to meet Aviva and Keith to deliver the community’s support. Moved by his words, the protesters immediately began an impromptu collection of funds, handing him everything they gathered and clearing the way so he could reach the meeting on time.
We wish to express our most sincere gratitude to every donor who contributed to this mission. We are deeply honored that Aviva and Keith shared their journey with us and that we had the merit to facilitate this outpouring of love and support from the People of Israel.
Our prayers remain with Aviva and Keith for a swift and complete recovery from the trauma they endured. May we soon merit the return of all the hostages remaining in captivity.
